Bon Jovi: The Circle

Bon Jovi's 11th studio album brings a mature take on hair-metal, writes Killian Fox

Of all rock'n'roll's bastard sons, hair-metal is perhaps the hardest to take seriously. Unless, that is, you're in Bon Jovi, in which case you've played more than 2,600 concerts over the last 26 years. Their 11th studio album, with tracks such as "When We Were Beautiful", suggests that time and toil have taken their toll. Hard-won wisdoms abound and, when he's not harking back to reckless youth, Jon Bon Jovi is fearing for the future of the blue-collar worker. Maturity and power chords can still co-exist, however, and The Circle has enough foot-stomping moments to fuel the next few world tours.
