Who: Phoenix.
Where and when: Other stage, Saturday, 4.30pm.
Dress code: Parasols, straw hats and a woman wearing a "FUCK BONO" T-shirt picked out on the video screen.
What happened: The Parisian hipsters walk out to find their first Glastonbury crowd in straw hats rather than wellies. They hit the mark with a casual "un, deux; un, deux, trois" and get everyone singing along to Lizstomania – then spend the bulk of the set cruising at the same patiently crafted soft-rock speed. Sometimes with Phoenix it's hard to escape the feeling that you're watching APC's design team rock out in an elegant fashion at their office party, but when they finally remember the French for "eleven" at the end of the set, the crowd lap it up.
High point: Opener Lizstomania gets the crowd singing along from the start, but it's not until the last two numbers that they hit their stride.
Low point: Phoenix are good at writing Phoenix songs, sometimes a little too good – a bit of light and shade (especially in this heat) wouldn't go amiss in a set of mid-paced numbers that all start to run into each other in the baking sun.
In a tweet: Le rock soft, c'est chic.
