Oleg Komarnitsky (1946-1998) is yet another composer rescued from obscurity by Martin Anderson's questing Toccata Classics, presenting first recordings of pieces not heard outside Russia until 1996. In his brief life Komarnitsky wrote orchestral, choral and chamber works that brim with an attractive invention reminiscent of Shostakovich, particularly the pungent Slavonic Capriccio for violin and piano, played with brio by Robert Atchison and Olga Dudnik. And his keyboard compositions made studying the piano fun for a generation of Soviet children; quite an achievement.
