When it received its British premiere in 2006, Magnus Lindberg's Violin Concerto was one of the finest new concertos for the instrument in several decades. Pekka Kuusisto attacks the glittering and glistening solo writing with relish. The richness and complexity of the textures that Lindberg generates from a modest, Mozartian orchestra continue to amaze, and the concerto certainly makes a much more substantial impression than the two ensemble pieces that follow it here – the six increasingly conventional miniatures, originally written for piano, that make up Jubilees from 2002, and the three rather overblown pieces of Souvenir (2010), which seems no more convincing on disc than it did when BCMG introduced it here last year.

A mixed album, but the richness and complexity of the textures that Lindberg generates from a modest, Mozartian orchestra continue to amaze Andrew Clements
