Bombay Bicycle Club: So Long, See You Tomorrow – review

Bombay Bicycle Club's fourth album has more of an electronic influence, but there's still an appealing wistfulness there, writes Ally Carnwath

Eight years since fitting festival appearances around their GCSEs, Bombay Bicycle Club are starting to feel like a venerable indie institution. Time then for songwriter Jack Steadman to go electronic. In truth, the band have experimented with loops and samples for some time, but not with the conviction that they do here. Carry Me opens with a barrage of abrasive synths, while Whenever, Wherever shifts from tremulous torch song to turbo-charged indie banger. But they avoid compromising the qualities that carried them this far; an appealing wistfulness clings to Steadman's voice, despite the clubby builds and drops.
