Covers albums can often signal creative wells running dry, and that's unfortunately the case with this pub-rock karaoke effort from the Hot Rats, aka Supergrass's Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey. Taken from their main band's bank of classic rock influences (Bowie, Costello, the Kinks, Roxy Music), the song choices offer few surprises, and some scuzzed-up guitar work is as much regard as they pay to reinterpretation. The exception is a lysergic take on the Beastie Boys' "Fight for Your Right (to Party)", a genuine curveball that suggests what might have been achieved with a little more lateral thinking.
