Another disc of love-duet baroque hits? Certainly, but this one has real subtlety and grace. We explore the line that runs from Monteverdi (the final duet from Poppea, if it really is by him) to Handel (the dazzling Sono liete, fortunate and exquisite Tanti strali), but in between there are real rarities, such as Antonio Lotti's lyrical Giuramento amoroso and Francesco Durante's rather modern Son io barbara donna. Contralto Sonia Prina and soprano Roberta Invernizzi, both stars of the current baroque scene, are beautifully exact partners, their clashing dissonances as perfectly tuned as their harmonious counterpoint. The fine Ensemble Claudiana oddly adds an arrangement of a Scarlatti sonata.
