The xx at Glastonbury 2010

Subtle drama, minimalist vibes and plenty of dry ice at the darkly hued trio's sleepy midnight performance

Who: The xx

When and where: The Park, Friday, 23.15

What happened: In the first of two Glasto performances we got subtle drama, naive melodies and plenty of dry ice from the south London trio as they squeezed out the songs from their debut – plus Kyla's Do You Mind and some Bronski Beat. They sounded a bit tour-worn, but other than that their tracks rang out with a bell-clear beauty. "It's such an honour to play for you," Oliver Sim said. But really, the pleasure was all ours.

Dress: Black, black, black! With some additional bling ...

Who's watching: Stragglers and grumpy fans. "Why have we come all the way to the Park stage to see a band who's playing tomorrow?"

High point: Along with the spellbinding light show, the wafer-thin Shelter turns into an unexpected singalong anthem.

Low point: The soundcheck that takes 20 minutes.

In a tweet: Midnight, minimalist Glasto vibes from the darkly hued trio, sounding sleepier than on record.
